Opening: Feb. 27th, 6-8pm
Feb.28th - Mar31st, 2009
ShanghART is delighted to present "Another Scene" - an extensive exhibition in H-Space that evolves around artists’ projects in their very first stage of conception.
The exhibition features over 200 pieces consisting of original works in medias such as drawings, sketches, works on paper, manuscripts, and improvisational notes. "Another Scene" aims to high-light the process of creativity that is the backdrop of both painting, film, video, installation, and new media. What we witness are ideas left to mature, that have eventually been pursued and evolved into amazing pieces of contemporary Chinese art. The collection displayed resembles and archive which takes its beginning with works created in the 1980’s up until today.
The assembled sketches and drawings establish a direct and sincere relation to the artists involved, showing insight and providing context. Most drawings are made in a spontaneous manner, allowing the flow of current events to affect the final result. Each of the works act as a byte of information and memory.
Pieces like Yu Youhan’s notorious Mao series, Ding Yi’s architectural renderings and constructions, Shi Yong’s conceptual ideas, along with early film scripts by Lu Chunsheng, among many other dessins, are on view. The ideas take shape through diverse media, ranging from paintings to sculptural objects, from video to photography or films. "Another Scene" is an insightful and beautiful synthesis, an exertion that attempts to communicate a universe for which there is space for memory, for shattered dreams, and hope.
