The sampan (small boat) constructed using wood offcuts from Tang Da Wu’s previous projects lay on its side, having been entwined by a serpent as depicted in the painting on the wall. The movement of the sampan has ceased due to the serpent, almost as if the serpent is helping to seize the time and space of the sampan, allowing it to stop in its track and hold on to the moment a little more.

After a failed attempt to sculpt the form of a serpent, Tang painted live during the opening on the wall using mud. The painting serendipitously encompasses various aspects of Tang's practice - the performative element and spontaneity, drawing from the unconscious, unwavering persistence to make things and try new ways, working in collaboration with the material through his body - while showcasing his free-flowing brushstrokes and mastery of painting with the earth pigment. Disguised as a sculptural installation and a painting, the work captures Tang's approach and philosophy in a subtle yet visually dynamic manner.
