This piece attempts to link up urban history, art history and the art gallery in one spatial arrangement, to recode and recreate this space in the context of today’s culture and economy.
It is in two parts, A and B.
Part A is a six storey vertical space, in which a lift is the central and key element. Its repeated vertical movements can be controlled, and as it moves it turns the power on and off for each storey. On each storey is an “electrical product” connected to the function of that floor. When the lift leaves, the lights on that floor turn off.
Party B is a horizontal space which can be turned into a functional part of the biennial. At its heart is a rotating transport device. It is a mobile reading room and seating area.
