Introduction:
'The intention of using Red and Grey as the title of this exhibition is to highlight the characteristics of contemporary art in China. It is about the transition from the red revolutionary art to the period of grey - with ennui, helplessness as well as a humourous approach to a cynical sort of gloomy sentiment arising from a sense of loss. In the art of this period we can see grey as well as the memories and the scars in red that still remain or lie hidden in the artists' gloomy state of mind'- Li Xianting. This catalogue also includes brief biographies of the artists.
