Introduction:
The lift of martial law in Taiwan (1987) and the Tiananmen Square Protests (1989) in China have brought crucial influence on the development of contemporary art in these two sides of the Taiwan Strait. Taking these historical incidents as the starting point, the exhibition aims to instill a thorough understanding of contemporary art in Taiwan and China in the context of social and political changes. Images of works in the present catalogue are accompanied by individual descriptions by Hu Yungfen and Pan Pingyu. Artist biographies are also provided.
