This catalogue was published on the occasion of two exhibitions of contemporary Chinese photography and video from the Haudenschild Collection, curated by Tina Yapelli, director of the University Art Gallery at San Diego State University. The exhibitions were accompanied by a series of educational programs and artists' residencies, presented in partnership with the San Diego Museum of Art; the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego; the Centro Cultural Tijuana, Mexico; the Shanghai Art Museum, China; the China Academy of Art, Hangzhou; El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, Tijuana, Mexico; and the San Diego Chinese Historical Society and Museum. In conjunction with the exhibitions, the Haudentschild Collection commissioned new works by artists Shi Yong and Yang Zhenzhong that premiered in San Diego.
