Zhu Jia’s project Be Together for Today was opened on August 20, 2017 at DRC No.12 space. The whole project is composed by four live talks between the artist and his friends. The films of the project will be played throughout the duration of the project when there are no scheduled live events. It will last till November 24, 2017.
Compared to the Chinese title “Keeping the Present”, its English title is more illustrative of the artist’s intention: the project is not a well-arranged and nostalgic seminar, Zhu wants to capture the moments when everyone were together inside the diplomatic apartment, which is a influential and historic site several decades ago. The atmosphere of the event is relaxed, while behind their reminiscence, narration and discussion of people, a more serious intention which is to find out a new artistic methodology that could link Chinese contemporary art at the very beginning with that of the future emerged.
Although the events were recorded as moving images, the uncontrollable tension between individual person could be received only at the moment. Due to lacking of fixed actors, texts ,and rules, anyone who walk into DRC with nonphysical emotion, gestures and expressions is part of the events.
