The Pearl Art Museum in Shanghai (PAM) plans to present a group exhibition In the Name of Flower from 7th August to 6th December, 2020. (Working title and provisional opening date)
We are now inviting artists to participate in this urgent exhibition project, including Nobuyoshi Araki, Hicham Berrada, Bi Rongrong, Cody Choi, Laurent Grasso, He Duoling, Hu Weiyi, Jiang Zhi, Asami Kiyokawa, Klara KRISTALOVA, Lee Mingwei, Liang Shaoji, Liang Ying, Sun Yue, Michael Lin, Xu Bing, Xu Xinhua, Xue Song, Yang Xun, Yu Youhan, Zhang Enli , Zhou Chunya, and Zhang Zipiao (The names are arranged in the alphabet order without priority.). Bringing together you renowned contemporary artists from China and abroad in this featured ‘art museum + bookstore’ space designed by Tadao Ando, the exhibition will show various artistic thoughts and approaches towards flowers with paintings, photographs, videos, research archives and site-specific installations.
As the pandemic has ravaged the world in 2020, PAM has launched an Emergency Call in the name of flowers and art. We hope to present artists’ interrelated but diverse creations through this exhibition alongside seminars and a series of learning programmes (online and onsite lectures, workshops, etc.). Those artworks connect with the hidden treasure in the art history, and the local customs around the globe; through the lens of flowers, we will get a special perspective to see, demonstrate, create and contemplate, and thus in a poetic way, to explore art, life, death, desire, power and other topics that have never been far away but so urgent as they are today.
