Solo Exhibition Nuoart, Beijing
NUOART & JC Project will launch artist Liu Cong's latest solo exhibition Time in Reflection on September 1, 2018. More than a dozen paintings created by the artist over the past three years will be on display.
In his painting practice at this stage, Liu Cong strips the narrative situation away from the canvas and realizes abstract feelings into the concrete existence of paintings through the gaze of daily objects. Most of the images in Liu Cong's works come from objects in everyday life, however, this is not all. The artist exploits the noumenal images of objects and recombines them into abstract structures by means of twinning, reflection, repetition, and cutting, which often convey the daily feelings of the artist. The symbolic meaning of the object itself is washed in Liu Cong's works, and the object returns to the primary state before the meaning—as a structural model to accommodate color; the practical meaning of the object falls behind its abstract meaning. Colors are also used in a restrained way in the works. The artist uses many primary colors with spiritual attributes, which creates an atmosphere of repeated reconciliation and shaping, leading to a stable and steadfast touch on the canvas. In this reflective work process, Liu Cong rejects the catharsis of emotions and places self-expression behind the surface of the painting, preserving the openness of meaning while imbuing personal will with the works.
