ShanghART Gallery is pleased to launch a dual solo exhibition of artists Chen Wei and Zhang Ding at the ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair 2023 from November 9 to November 12, and our booth is at C12.
Chen Wei
Chen Wei continues to capture and represent the spiritual life of "city dwellers" in his works. He isolates "people" from the urban landscape. In the early "Club" series, the afterimage of a man hidden in the darkness, and the portrait of his hand froze the silence after revelry. Afterward, Chen Wei turns his lens to the indoor urban landscape in the recent "New City" series - the overturned pool table and the window covered with moisture tell the frustration and loss of those progressive lives and are wrapped within a beauty of correctness. The exhibition also features the installation work "Sweet Dream", in which automatically operating coin machines constantly produce luck and misfortune.
Zhang Ding
The project presents a series of new digital image works by artist Zhang Ding following the previous works in the 2019 OCAT solo exhibition "High-Speed Forms", and will bring about brand new visual experiences to the audience. In the "High-Speed Forms" series, highways and cars are used as allegories to interpret our alienated life in contemporary high-speed society. The image carried by the car - the running speed represented by the rhinoceros and the money speed represented by Zhang Ding's iconic slogan "Gold Can Move the God" jointly visualize the new "high-speed" form.
