Tang Da Wu is an artist who has used everyday objects to express social contradictions and the violence hidden within them. He thought about many things at the exhaust vent in Tachikawa, including Marilyn Monroe's famous pose with her skirt flying, a giant Chinese wok hanging on the wall, a huge bicycle seat and a row of soya sauce bottles, each 5m high, placed over the ventilation opening. He had wanted the 4.5m high basket to be made of copper piping, but used fibreglass instead due to limitations.
