The Space Theatre and its surroundings will become a home to explore the impact and pleasure of durational performance at this Festival. Curated by Marina Abramović Institute (MAI), the following artists from Australia, neighbouring countries and beyond are invited to create site-specific, long-durational projects:
Marina Abramović (appearing digitally)
Collective Absentia
Li Binyuan (performing Sat 2 Mar only, 4pm - approx. 12am)
Yingmei Duan
SJ Norman
Mike Parr (performing Fri 1 Mar only, 12pm - 12am)
Indigo Perry
Melati Suryodarmo
Christian Thompson
These artists will engage with endurance, presence and participation, creating an infinite possibility of encounters between visitors and artists. Visitors are encouraged to explore the various spaces, not just observe, and to return over the course of the project to track the changes and surprises in the evolving, long-durational pieces.
Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) presents and supports performance art at a global scale. Through an artist driven process, the Institute maintains both a multidisciplinary approach to performance and a focus on long durational work. This will be the latest global communal participatory project created by MAI, following São Paulo (2015), Athens (2016), Kyiv (2017), Bangkok (2018), Istanbul (2020), Amsterdam (2022) and London (2023).
Marina Abramović Institute is: Marina Abramović, Thanos Argyropoulos, Serge Le Borgne, Paula Garcia and Billy Zhao.
