On March 24, 2024, MACA launched the group exhibition "Precarious Encounters," featuring for the first time MACA's collection and the personal collection of its founder Che Xuanqiao. The exhibition showcased the works of 20 artists spanning generations and nationalities, including paintings, installations, sculptures, and videos. 26 contemporary artworks were presented on a map of ruins assembled from fragments, offering a snapshot of the harsh realities of the current world. Responding to the turbulent and enigmatic situation of the present world, the exhibition outlined the profound conflicts and anxieties of our current era. MACA invites you to experience together the "lost" and "discomfort" we intentionally create, searching for secret information about this world.
The exhibition's title "An Atlas of the Difficult World" is inspired by Adrienne Rich's poetry collection "An Atlas of the Difficult World." It aims to reflect the tumultuous and complex nature of the contemporary world. The showcased artworks resemble fragments of reality extracted from ruins, representing various elements such as bodies, emotions, technology, or nature. Inspired by Rich's poetry, these pieces reshape fragments of history to present a unique artistic experience.
