Dong Gallery cordially presents a new show “Xinzhuang: The Stories of Five Youths” with Lu Tianyang, Su Chang, Zhang Jing, Zhang Xiaochuan and Zhang Yunyao on 5 March 2011. In the past, all five artists participating in the show shared their working and living space at a studio in the Xinzhuang area's Shennan Er Road for over two years. When the studio was torn down, they went separate ways, though kept on making art. This new gathering of the five artists presents their recent paintings, sculptures, installations and video works, which project the living and working state of each of them.

Lu Tianyang and Zhang Yunyao took part in a successful group exhibition in Ireland this January, which shared the same spirit as the upcoming exhibition. Capturing the instantaneous moments in life with a bold and shocking way, Lu Tianyang's “How to Make Beauty Stay” series appears a challenge to the viewer's nerves. Zhang Yunyao's installation “Sisyphus Tower” continues his reflection on paradox through his cynical and mocking analysis of the heavier side of human civilization. Su Chang comes from a background of oil painting, however, the three new pieces from his “New Village” series prove his talent in sculpture. Continuing his regular style, the sculptures expose the often neglected and disappearing inner values of everyday life objects. As a sensitive person, Zhang Jing's works often involve his personal life experiences. The “Glass Case” series in the exhibition is a reflection of his inner journey, and can also be seen as a work-on-paper stage before sculptures. Zhang Xiaochuan is a long-term video artist, and his experimental short video “Qing” explores the subtle relationship between people and urbanization.
