Wan Hai Hotel: Singapore Strait is an innovative and first-of-its kind exhibition format originally staged by Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, and will make a stop in Singapore ahead of its presentation at the 61st Venice Biennale. Transforming a heritage hotel into an experiential exhibition site, this presentation will not only exclusively feature Southeast Asian programming, but also call upon Singapore's historical positioning and global resonance as a trading hub.
Curated by X-Zhu Nowell, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Rockbund Art Museum (RAM), Shanghai, this exhibition features an exceptional list of artists hailing from Southeast Asia, Australasia, and Asia Pacific, whose works dwell on archipelagic thinking and maritime identity, this unique iteration will transform the lobby of a restored heritage property on Robertson Quay into an immersive exhibition space that combines institutional-level curation with a seamless hospitality experience. In this hybrid environment, visitors are drawn into a dynamic world where film and video programmes, site-specific interventions, installations, performances, and artist-led gatherings unfold.
