Abandon Normal Devices (AND) Festival of New Cinema and Digital Culture returns to Liverpool for its third annual edition, from 29 September – 2 October 2011.
AND is presented by FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) Cornerhouse (Manchester) and folly (Lancaster), and is an innovative new festival of arts and cultural debate for the Northwest. Breaking rules, crossing boundaries and turning its audiences minds inside out like no other festival, AND will bring forth another host of genre defying, cross-platform artists at the visionary edges of arts, film, science and technology to investigate the question: what are normal devices? How and why might we abandon them?
This year’s festival investigates the outer limits of belief. Expect UFO’s, fake gurus, gagging orders, celebrity cults, flying saucers and other paranormal activities, with UK premieres and new commissions from Kurt Hentschlager, Shezad Dawood, Revital Cohen, Brody Condon and Rachel Mayeri.
2011 AND Festival activity kicks off in September on a transmedia tour of the Northwest through fairs, zoos and markets, in Cumbria, Cheshire and Lancashire, culminating in the festival itself, which arrives in Liverpool at the end of that month, with FACT as its hub.
