Shanghai Art Museum education event during 2006 Shanghai Biennale
From September to November of 2006, DING Yi implemented a project entitled Time-Space Post Office at Shanghai Art Museum. Covered fully by “crosses", the classic symbols always employed by the artist, these mailboxes became an interactive installation with strong design feeling that connected art and design, and even art and audience’s wishes. Also it extended the geographical concepts that post office delivered a letter into a time-space concept. It allowed the viewers to post their letters and to express their feelings to the future, unleashing the wildest imagination and weaving together the past, the present and the future. At the same time, audience as future people could also search and check messages written by others. Perhaps, the meaning of this project is unveiling human’s wishes to look into the future and to construct history in methods of futurology and sociology.
