The artist DING Yi utilised his signature symbol "crosses" to create Cross Bridge for Lianyang Community in Pudong District of Shanghai in 2001. The work establishes connection between two creative fields, architecture and sculpture, allowing an easy way for audience to understand the work and generating their resonance. By affecting people's daily life, the work introduces gradually the feeling of importance of art in life. The artist aims at the perfect marriage between and implementation of fine art and the design of architecture and sculpture. Being a pedestrian bridge, it is also sculpture with practical function and of spiritual symbol. It is no longer a monumental piece. It is fully integrated into the ordinary landscape.
