ShanghART is pleased to present the group exhibition Summer Cinema at the main space from July 25th to August 23rd.

Cinema could be seen as a space for interaction and communication contributed by moving images. The implied messages by thousands of frames in the video might be a three-dimensional figure of the still objects in the scene; might be a release of raw emotions; might be a monologue of the producer. While receiving the images and context, audience interpret every single moment and create a conversation with the work as well as the space.

In the Related to the Physiological State, HU Jieming obtained the electrocardiogram and respiration waveform of a dying patient at hospital. What he did is to place staves on the grams and to make the crossover points become melody played by the pianist. Here, it is just a fine line between consciousness and non-consciousness. While illustrating a daily conversation and a pleasant visual image in a direct way, Straight Line and Exam imply a miniature of society. Either the elderly man walking in a straight line or the two young girls reading politics books could help to form and reveal a profound interpretation of physical world in YANG’s mind.

Summer Cinema is not only a reflection on the de-construction and re-construction of daily life images but a space that brings audience’s perceptions to the realistic world as well.
