WU YIMING 邬一名
B. 1966, lives and works in Shanghai
Wu Yiming has always believed that in the process of exploring painting, the essence hidden behind materiality needs to be revealed by the artist. The stripping away of this creative process gradually moves from blur to clarity within uncertain time and uncertain states of mind. In this complex world, those beautiful moments unknowingly become solidified within his images.
Of course, subject matter is not important to the artist. What he mostly paints are potted plants casually placed around the studio, or inconspicuous small scenes by the roadside. For us, real life is blurred, ambiguous, accidental, and uncertain; yet for Wu Yiming, the so-called real world is merely a fictional world. Wu Yiming solidifies it — what concerns him is how to search for uncertain, even alienated, spiritual content within inconspicuous scenes. This is a free game that belongs to him, and he solidifies them together. This final “solidified object” is a highly self-sufficient spiritual product of the painter Wu Yiming.
