The State of Crawl - china consists of many little ceramic figures heaped into a great pile and the moment of their crawling is captured here. Like the consistent "concerns with dissimilarity and assimilation" in Xiang's works, these figures resemble each other in both outline and action, referring to something and yet nothing. "Crawling" is perhaps the safest and least adventurous action. The figures seem compelled to crawl upwards as if to exceed some situations, recalling for the viewer the nature of life, which brings both happiness and countless difficulties. To deal with stress, everyone has to react with the same attitude unconsciously, or even at times it may seem that it is not simply our body but even our thoughts that are contorted by life. Whatsoever, here is a pile of art, white and pretty.
