Xu Zhen’s exhibition “Corporate” will be held at the Kunsthaus Graz, Austria, opening 27 September 2015 until 10 January 2016.

The exhibition deals with identities and the reworking of cultural heritage in an ever-more conformist world. Not least of all, it tackles prejudices existing between East and West. The works on show have been produced by Zhen since 2009 in conjunction with his firm, MadeIn Company (the term refers to the commonly found label ‘made in China’). The works comment on a short-lived, globe-spanning consumerist society and questions where the future of human behaviour will lead, creating possible systems offering cultural and spiritual understanding. Through the challenging design and the concept of the exhibition, the emphasis lies on Zhen’s engagement with art as product which implies moving between easy consumption and provocative commercialisation. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with texts by Christopher Moore, Petra Pölzl, Philip Tinari, and an interview with Xu Zhen conducted by one of the two curators himself, Katrin Bucher Trantow.

Shanghai based Xu Zhen, is a theoretical artist whose works often takes the forms of provocative sculptures, installations and interventions that challenge socio-political taboos in China today and freely manipulate western expectations of Chinese art and commerce.
