April 30, 2014, Zhang Ding transferred ShanghART Beijing space into a live house by his solo project Orbit of Rock, inviting 4 bands to re-perform the legendary concert Monster of Rock music festival which took place in 1991 near Moscow. The space was covered with huge Sound Absorber that Zhang Ding especially made for this concert, using welding gun to create unique pattern. Each piece of The Kind of Need takes a small part from the picture of the Sound Absorber, which is processed to silkscreen print on the metal plate.

Artist statement:
During the Orbit of Rock, artificial texture was absorbing aggressive sound; In the kind of need, flame was burning out with the gold; What the cooling-down is, no longer brilliant but still fascinating.
