Introduction

Han Qian (b. 1993, Wuhan) received her BFA in Printmaking from the Academy of Fine Arts
of Rome in 2016, and her MFA/DNSEP from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts
de Paris in 2021. She currently lives and works between Wuhan and Kunming.
Her practice spans video, installation, performance, and printmaking. Over the years, she
has been concerned with time, memory, and the traces of objects and histories that adhere
to them. Her work engages with the trajectories of family histories and industrial migration,
tracing generations of displacement and settlement, and reimagining the shifting landscapes,
identity politics, and forms of territorial belonging that arise in their wake.
Through the reconfiguration of hidden clues and fragile materials, her practice focuses
on the precariousness of marginal lives and the experiences of individuals overlooked or
dispossessed within systems of power. At once a pursuit of fragments obscured in history and
environment, and a call to presences marked by silence or absence, while opening fissures
toward other possibilities of existence.
