Introduction
XIAO Wenjie (b.1982, Hong Kong) studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute from 2002 to 2005. Now lives and works in Beijing. His artistic practice has long focused on the linguistic evolution of painting itself and the boundaries of perception. Building upon the deconstruction of his early system of superimposed color blocks, he reweaves "line" and "form" to distill a series that takes "Lump" as its visual motif. These forms emerge organically through the repeated layering of media, serving as an experiment that disrupts the inertia of linguistic definition and suspends established concepts. His recent major exhibitions include: Xiao Wenjie: "Lump" Series, ShanghART Gallery Upstairs, Beijing (2026); Soft Frequencies, ShanghART Gallery, Shanghai (2026); and Provisional Matters, ShanghART Gallery, Beijing (2024) etc.
