Introduction:
The catalogue for a group exhibition of 18 contemporary Chinese artists whose art developed in the wake of the liberating economic changes which swept through the country in the mid 1980s. The works chosen for this exhibition are mainly figurative and encompass a range of various styles including political pop and cynical realism. An accompanying essay written by Paul Sefraty offers a detailed study of the exhibits and the historical and social background in which these works were produced. Biographies of artists and artist statements are also included.
