ShanghART is pleased to present Liu Yue’s solo project at the 2023 Photofairs Shanghai. Liu Yue is not a photographic artist in the usual sense, but rather an image researcher. Everything in his work is related to 'cognitive study', whether it is graphic photography or spatial installation. His interest in "cognitive study" comes from Liu Yue's curiosity about light as a child. Liu Yue realized the hegemony of light and the distrust of it: people's perception of the world must be through light, and the world that people see has to be facilitated by the reflection of light, which in Liu Yue's opinion is not the real object itself, so Liu Yue believes that "light has kidnapped the object". In order to express this attitude and to practice his research on images, he has been working on the "'cognitive study" of images for a long time.
