The Shanghai Contemporary Art Group Exhibition, titled "Perception and Imagery," is scheduled to take place from July 1 to August 31, 2023 at the SAISEN ART space in M50, Shanghai.

This exhibition, presented with great honor by Amanyangyun and SAISEN ART, serves as a corresponding showcase between two distinct venues, highlighting the interplay and resonance within a shared thematic framework. Building upon the previous sections of the Amanyangyun's group exhibition, namely "Knowledge through Sensibility," "Realm without boundaries," and "Transcendence beyond Representation," which encompassed nearly forty painting installations, we intend to continue with the presentation of the fourth and fifth sections, "Clarity of Mind" and "Subtle Metamorphoses."These sections will feature approximately thirty additional paintings.

The curatorial vision of this exhibition is centered on individuals and phenomena deemed significant, including fifteen artists such as Yu Youhan, Ding Yi, Zhang Enli, Huang Yuanqing, Shen Chen, Ma Kelu, and Feng Lianghong. These artists have been actively engaged in the Chinese contemporary art scene since the early 1980s, gradually establishing themselves as influential and representative figures of their era. A majority of them either originate from Shanghai or have cultivated longstanding relationships with the city. The "Perception and Imagery" Saisen group exhibition adopts an innovative approach that shifts its gaze towards the realms of "individual cognition and the inherent autonomy of painting" alongside the intricate interplay between the artistic creation and the enigmatic spheres of the " unknown external world or the Other."  This paradigmatic shift offers a profound and enlightening lens through which to explore the exhibition’s thematic discourse, imbuing it with a sense of intellectual illumination and perceptual lucidity. Indirectly, it reflects the overarching style and exceptional sensibilities of Shanghai artists, which are defined by their subtlety, sensitivity, purity, and profundity. Departing from the confines of conventional art historical categorizations, such as "Chinese vs. Western," "abstract vs. non-representational," or "new painting vs. contemporary ink art," the exhibition strives to continuously explore novel angles and phenomena related to the artistic system, thereby enriching the overall critical discourse. In the face of a tumultuous external world and the proliferation of emerging conceptual trends, the group of Shanghai artists espouses simplicity while maintaining a profound understanding of tradition. Within their serene and unrestrained spirits, they embody an immutable timelessness. Thus, they offer the younger generation in this new era a plethora of possibilities to pursue subjective interpretations and attain a more expansive comprehension of art. Amidst the flux and vicissitudes of our dynamic era, individuals persistently strive to explore novel possibilities and stimulate the inexhaustible creative potential that fuels the emergence of artistic innovation. In this creaseless quest, the propel the awakening of nascent artistic forces, embracing a wider lens through which to perceive the world, and giving rise to transformative creative energies.
