With his unique works, Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul brings the invisible, inaudible, and untouchable into our world. Now, for his production ‘A Conversation with the Sun (VR)’, he uses the possibilities of virtual reality for the first time. In a space animated by the director’s cinematographic images, visitors are invited to wander along the shores of a primordial world yet unknown. On this gentle journey, we encounter sleeping bodies and invisible presences in a suspended daydream at the threshold of conscious existence, inspired by near-death experiences. In collaboration with the legendary Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, Weerasethakul has created the initial installment of this ongoing VR performance, marking its European premiere at Theater der Welt 2023.
