On June 27, 2025, the exhibition Reading the Land: The Poetics of Image, Fieldwork, and Geography opened at Fotografiska Shanghai. Curated by He Yining in collaboration with the Times Museum Guangdong, this research-based exhibition brings together the works of twenty artists whose practices engage with art, geography, geology, and geopolitics. Grounded in local experiences and systems of knowledge, the exhibition reconstructs visual narratives that are deeply rooted in place.
To mark the opening of the exhibition, curator He Yining was invited to share the conceptual framework and curatorial methodology behind the project. Guiding audiences through the artists' diverse practices, she traces the profound intersections of image, geography, and history, inviting us to look anew at the multilayered and enduring landscape of China.
