As a key figure in the generation of artists who emerged, along with the very notion of “Contemporary Chinese Art,” onto the world stage of the early 1990s, Zeng Fanzhi has consistently used his works to reflect on the social and cultural climate of his country through a highly personal visual language. Zeng Fanzhi has been continuously creating the "Abstract Landscapes" series since 2006. He studied the noumenon form of the painting, and created the colorful and dynamic "Abstract Landscapes" series with rough brush strokes. He also exhibited this series for the first time in the same year at ShanghART Gallery. In recent years of creation, a great fire rages behind trees in the foreground, just as the distinct visual experience conveyed by the work "Zi Qi Dong Lai" - the deathly stillness that follows a blaze and the abundant life that precedes it.
