Through invitation, open calls and visiting local parks, the artist recruited a hybrid group of eight amateur musicians with instruments that do not necessarily go together. For four months, they practice in workshops co-organized by artist and Yeren, a musician, to unlearn their habits of playing and to construct a sonic language that allows structured improvisation. Rhythm as grammar, notes as characters.
Each week they perform before an audience in a historic clubhouse, and their performances slowly evolve as the workshops continue. Each performance follows a similar structure but differs in style and length. Each performance or “dialogue” is a unique experience on its own and inevitably contains chaos and disorder as the price of communication and learning. It ends only when all members agree the communication is complete.
"Loop Song" won the special selection award of the RanRan Youth Art Award in 2022.
