My Vietnamese friend Thuy Tien once bought a piece of calligraphy in a park—a character meant to be “zhi” (will)—and hung it in her bedroom for years. When I visited, I noticed it actually says “qing” (love). She then asked me to write a new “zhi” for her, and I also wrote her a piece of “Huan Zhu Ge Ge” (My Fair Princess).
