Shao invited experienced goldsmiths from Hangzhou to make some life-size nails and hairs with pure gold. Trimming nails and the loss of hairs are both daily life common matters. Understandably, as byproducts of metabolism, they should be discarded. The artist, however, presents them with an extraordinary splendor, getting rid of their dirtiness and endowing them with gold delicacy and great value. This work reflects artist's interests on human body details, as well as dialectical unity between gold and dirtiness. However what might even be more intriguing is the body that loses these gold nails.
In 2008, Gold Nails was exhibited as part of the series of the "Small Productions" in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
