In 1998, Shen Fan was invited by the European Ceramics Work Center and worked for three months in 'S-Hertogenbosch in Netherlands, during which he created a series of ceramic works. While visiting the Dutch city, Shen found a type of plastic moulds, mainly designed to produce decorations, with patterns of homegrown flowers and popular picture frames. Those moulds caught his eyes and he selected several of them to produce a series of works. Part of the work, 36 picture frames, is presented in this exhibition. At that time, local people would often make decorations to kill time and sometimes used them as interior ornaments. Today, this work records this fascinating phenomenon. This series of works by Shen Fan stand between art and craft, thus introducing more possibilities of art interpretation and experiences.
