Often humourously and sarcastically, JI Wenyu and ZHU Weibing tease and question the existence of our reality with their art creation: borrowing soft fabric as their language which defies specific posture, the artists fill in, sew up and decorate their works, which finally produce a multitude of mild yet absurd scenarios. The time around 2005 witnessed the attention of the artists put on the relationship between consumerism and internal desires concealed within every individual in Chinese society. Make Beautiful was precisely a piece of art produced under such context. The texture of linen endows this sensuous body with profound implication: confidence and arrogance, as well as anticipation and disappointment. The figure, along with the readymades which include sofa, makeup brush and mirror, renders the same silence and solitude.
