A builder who once worked on our house left behind a blue pencil worn to nothing. Five years later, I sharpened a yellow one to add a tower for you: 'an earthly building what else can men build? - but with a loftier goal than the humble dwelling houses and a clearer meaning than the muddle of everyday life.'
