Introduction
Dai Chenlian was born in 1982 Shaoxing Zhejiang Province China and graduated from China Academy of Fine Art. He won the Best Work Award at the Tokyo Art Festival in 2019 and was nominated for the Huayu Youth Award in 2016.
Dai Chenlian’s artistic practice centers on the idea of theater, moving freely between painting, performance, video and installation. He transforms everyday spaces, personal memories and social scenes into fluid theaters, breaking boundaries between art and life, fiction and reality through a relaxed, improvisational and reflective approach.
Rather than grand narratives, his works extract poetry from subtle gestures, intervals and coincidences, accommodating complex emotions and experiences within minimal forms. Using “theater” as a method, he redefines the relationships between viewing, performance and existence, establishing a highly distinctive cross-media practice.
