The Tray System series adopts a rounded, concave form, drawing inspiration from the artist’s personal experiences. Having previously worked as a chef, he developed a deep visual imprint of the trays used to hold food—an unconscious influence that later found its way into his artistic creation.
At the same time, from the introduction of television in China in the 1970s to the widespread adoption of computers and smartphones, the rounded screens displaying second-hand moving images have gradually transformed the way people observe and comprehend the world. Yet, in these works, the artist does not seek to replicate direct or second-hand representations of reality, nor to depict a hidden world revealed through mechanical observation.
The lines, colors, textures, speed, and composition in his works reflect the artist’s ever-shifting psychological states. These images may never have existed in the tangible world, yet through the artist’s interaction with the canvas, they attain a singular and irreplaceable presence—an autonomous landscape of the mind, independent of reality.
