Introduction
Huang Kui (b. 1977, Renshou County, Sichuan Province) is a Chinese contemporary artist. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and currently lives and works in Shanghai. As a key figure in Chinese contemporary art after the millennium, Huang Kui's artistic practice spans various media, including performance, installation, video, and painting. Known for his experimental approach, he co-founded the online art platform"Art-Ba-Ba"as well as the physical space "YAO Space," providing vital support for the Chinese contemporary art ecosystem. In recent years, Huang Kui has been exploring the "Hard-Painting" method, a unique painting-video practice developed through hundreds of repaintings on a single canvas combined with video documentation. His works are held in collections such as the M+ Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in the United States.
