Opening: February 18, 2023 15:00-17:00
In response to the “revisit” theme, the Museum of Wu is delighted to present a series of site-specific projects that impart Chinese culture through commissioned artwork and collaborative exhibitions aiming to explore four main directions: retelling local histories through contemporary art, investigating the cultural and social significance of archaeology, probing into the function of museums in the postmodern era, and constructing Chinese identities and discourse within a globalized context.
The inaugural exhibition of this series, “The Quill Is Mightier Than The Sword,” features Liang Shaoji and Yang Jiechang. As pioneers of Chinese contemporary art, they have witnessed and made significant contributions to its development. As such, they will discuss Wuzhong’s history, Chinese literati tradition, and the heritage values inherent in contemporary society, showcasing their extensive experiences in history, global vision, and experimental practices in art.
In light of the artists’ choice of medium and the core of their works, one can observe their mastery of simplifying complexity, combining fundamental execution with profound spiritual meanings. The contemporary perspective and expression allow the works to permeate cultural relics with a sense of the present, echoing Wuzhong’s exhibitions and constituting a harmonious and rich composition.
