From 8 March 2025, ShanghART Beijing presents “This Weekend” a special art project unfolding in a progressive format. The inaugural exhibition will showcase works and live practices by Liu Guoqiang, Lu Lei, Zeng Hong, Zhang Donghui, Dai Chenlian, and Li Nu. As the project evolves weekly, it will explore both organically emerging collaborations and moments of self-dialogue within the space—along with unexpected, cross-spatial connections that arise in the process.
As a temporal marker of modern society, “Weekend” exists at the intersection of work and rest, where individual and societal relationships converge. Within the seemingly quantifiable and regulated trajectory of linear time, it acts as a rupture in the cycle—a space imbued with aspirations for freedom, yet one that also reveals the inherent tensions between temporal discipline, consumer culture, and identity construction. Following the inaugural exhibition, “This Weekend” will become a long-term project housed in the venue’s auxiliary gallery, serving as a site to map and accumulate artistic possibilities—those that could be, are becoming, and are yet to emerge. The project aims to create a platform for dialogue between diverse perspectives and identities within the contemporary art context.

Lu Lei
Lu Lei was born in Jiangsu in 1972. He graduated from the Sculpture Department of China Academy of Art in 1998, now works and lives in Beijing. As one of the important artists in contemporary Chinese installation art, Lu Lei's works show sensitivity and precise control of material texture.
