In the work “Three Hundred Characters”, Shi Yong took a mysterious incident that happened in the city of Shanghai and, in the name of “abstraction”, re-organised the order of narrative to make it completely illegible. The content and word count of the information remain the same, but the event is completely taken out of its original context. Like a bunch of material evidence scattered in a narrative maze without a clue, the event that gave them their form is lost within the haze of three hundred neon light characters, wordless, silent and lost...
