ShanghART Gallery is delighted to announce that Ding Yi’s solo exhibition “Flowing Infinity” will open at Tag Art Museum in Qingdao in celebration of its first anniversary of opening. The exhibition runs from August 13th to October 23rd, 2022. Curated by Zhang Zikang, the exhibition not only presents Ding Yi's representative works over the past 30 years based on the meta-language of "Appearance of Crosses", but also reveals his new creation inspired by the "sea", along with installation and video works by Ding Yi.

As the artist in the first "Artist Case Study Exhibition" of TAG Art Museum, Ding Yi is a pioneer in Chinese contemporary art and a substantial standard bearer of abstract painting. Remarkably, a series of site-specific works were created in Hall 7, which dialogue and interact with the museum architecture, the city, and nature. Through the four diamond-shaped windows of different scales in the exhibition hall, Ding Yi caught a glimpse of the moving scenery of the sea and the sky as the source of inspiration for his new creation. The audience will enjoy the everchanging images of the sky, the sea, and stars through the works, immerse in the flowing infinity, and jump into the vast universe and spiritual realm constructed by Ding Yi.

The oceanic view of the exhibition observes how Ding Yi releases the infinite energy of the "Appearance of Crosses" that transcends the limitations of human beings with artistic creation and seeks constantly infinity and eternity.

"Our research on Ding Yi's works is an opportunity to retrospect the glorious history of Chinese contemporary art since the reform and opening-up. The research on 'How Ding Yi became Ding Yi' is not only to study an artist's growth history but also to explore the context of social development, which sets a prominent example for future artists.” Said Zhang Zikang, curator of the exhibition and director of the CAFA Art Museum.

“The artist deconstructed and reorganized the recognizable Qingdao's humanities and geographical elements into the rich and restrained texture of his new creation. He engraves the gene of this coastal city into his universe of 'Appearance of Crosses' with the 'flowing infinity' that has become an indispensable organism in contemporary art." Said Meng Xianwei, producer of the exhibition and founder of Tag Art Museum.
